Catherine Delamain

Catherine Delamain began her speech therapy career in an audiology unit where she became interested in specific language disorder, and spent a year in the United States studying the differential diagnosis of SLI. Throughout her career she worked closely with colleagues in early years education, and in both mainstream and special schools. She was instrumental in the setting up of a special needs nursery, and dedicated speech and language bases in mainstream schools. Her last post was team leader for education in a large Speech and Language Therapy Service, where she also formed part of the autism diagnostic team.

After partial retirement, she collaborated with a Senior Educational Psychologist in setting up and delivering a rolling programme of training in first and primary schools. This aimed to help teachers give effective support to children with speech, language and communication needs. She is now fully retired.
