Elisa Gagnon
Elisa Gagnon, began teaching autistic children in the late 1980's in a self-contained classroom in a large urban school district. She developed a passion for this unique group of children as well as a desire to connect research to practice in the classroom, completing a graduate program at the University of Kansas with an emphasis in autism. Over the course of her career Elisa has worked in several school districts as a teacher and as a consultant. She has also spoken throughout the United States and Canada about the use of effective strategies to teach autistic children. A highlight of her career was creating specialised district wide programs for those on the spectrum.
Elisa has seen trends and terminology change, however using special interests to motivate autistic students has continued to be an effective strategy.
