Isaac is a boy who struggles with waiting his turn to be recognised by an adult. He’s a little impatient, and this can get him in trouble at school and in the world. When a tough problem has him stuck, Isaac blurts out. With patience, Isaac’s mom guides him through the steps of getting somebody’s attention appropriately, helping him with the problem, and implementing interpersonal communication skills he will need for future situations. Isaac understands, but needs some practice!

Isaac’s adventures continue at the store, at home, and at school, where the adults are there to teach him even more skills like how to interrupt the right way!

Told in author Bryan Smith’s hallmark humorous style, follow Isaac as he learns how to wait his turn and to interrupt appropriately.

This is the first book in the brand-new Stepping Up Social Skills series by the award-winning author, counsellor, and dad.

At the end of the book there is a page of resources and tips for parents.

"A great addition to a library, nursery, or school This is a book about Isaac, who is in the second grade. It's worth noting that the second grade in the USA is a Year 3 for the UK (Age 6-7 years). For a global community it would be better that he introduces himself by his age than his school year. Isaac has problem getting help when he needs it, which makes him shout out and interrupt the teacher. Isaac doesn't have any patience and gets frustrated easily when he doesn't know how to complete a task and wants help. This is also applied to real world situations where you might need to be patient too, like buying something in a shop. Of course, there are times when it's okay to interrupt because waiting patiently will take too long, such as when someone needs urgent attention, isn't feeling well or is in danger. The book talks about emergencies, and how you can interrupt someone when it's really needed. The language is simple and there are very clear age appropriate steps to follow. At the end of the book there is a page of resources and tips for parents which I found very educational and helpful. I'd recommend But I need your help now! to any children in perhaps the 5-6+ age range who are struggling with how to ask politely for help, with understanding patience and when it's okay to interrupt an adult. This is an educational resource that would be a great addition to a library, nursery or school, but also handy to have at home if you're experiencing a problem with children who are impulsive or impatient. I'm giving this book five stars as an educational children's resource. Originally posted to NetGalley."

"This will be a great addition to our classroom library! Being a Kindergarten teacher, I must say this will be a great addition to our classroom library! Taking turns and listening while others are talking is very hard for younger students. Waiting for their turn while in line is even harder to do! Here were a few suggestions to teach the students: •I loved how the book encouraged them if someone can’t help right away, try to problem solve. One of my class sayings was always ask three before me! Meaning ask three other people to see if you can find the answer. •Letting the students know they can always interrupt for an emergency Is always a good thing to tell them. •Skip it and go on to the next problem, if the teacher is busy. •Having visual reminders like an anchor chart is great way for students to see what is required"
