Category Workshop presents pictures of familiar items arranged in twenty-five categories. It is intended to help you enhance young learners' language development by introducing information in a manner which compliments natural language development.
In the first part of the book items belonging to twenty-four categories are pictured on adjacent pages. Pictures are large and simple so you can easily present them. Each of the presentation pictures is labelled and, except for the category, "Shapes," all pictures appear in full color. The category, "Colors," appears on a single page at the end of this
section.
Following the presentation pictures is a section containing reproducible, black line support pages. These pages are intended to strengthen students' knowledge of the items in each category as well as the category itself. Most categories have two or three support pages including reproducible black line drawings of each of the items presented in color in the first section. This page can be used for sharing the contents of a language lesson with parents or teachers. A child can have his own category picture page to take home.
Following the picture page are activity pages intended to stimulate children to focus on and/or expand their thinking about the things that are grouped together. Support pages for the categories including wild and domestic animals combine all of these animals and feature traits of animals in general. Also included here is a simple "make-it-yourself' animal booklet.
The last five support pages present activities where items from various categories come together in more comprehensive activities.
