English spelling is difficult to learn. In Year Reception, children are taught the first sound/symbol correspondences of the English Phonic Code. Children with good visual memory and good grasp of sound/symbol correspondences will make steady progress in spelling. Others may fall behind. This could be due to hearing loss, poor visual memory, immaturity and concentration difficulties or poor sequencing skills. These children will enter Year l needing to revise the spelling taught in Reception before taking on the more complex sound/symbol correspondences taught in Year 1. This workbook is aimed of those children.
