The instructional activities in Day to Day Life Skills: Reading help students with language and learning disabilities develop reading skills necessary to function effectively in a variety of daily life situations. The lessons give students practice in reading phone books, road signs, food labels, charts, tables, and other types of printed materials that they encounter at home and in the community. Students also learn reading skills that will be helpful in using the Internet.
This book is divided into 12 units, each consisting of three lessons. Each unit includes instructional objectives, teaching suggestions, and "hands-on-activities" that can be used to reinforce the skills taught. Each lesson also includes a "tips" page with suggestions for helping students to understand and use a specific type of printed information.
