The workbooks of the Intensive Reading Programs are designed to be used in a particular way, with great emphasis being placed on reaching daily and weekly targets, charting progress and so on. Descriptions of all aspects of the program and instructions for best implementation are included in the Teacher's Manual.
The Sample Pages are from the Level 1 Primary Student Workbook. For the purposes of using the sample unit of work, the student is expected after 4 lessons (or 1 week) to be able to read correctly 60 or more words from the list, with no more than 2 errors, in one minute. If the 4 columns are completed, the student returns to the beginning and continues reading until 60 seconds have elapsed. The student would also be expected to know the meaning of all 60 words, be able to complete the close exercises containing the words and read fluently, sentences containing the list words.
