The Killer Trail, a dangerous bike trail which ends in a cliff, has served as a rite of passage for generations. It fascinates and terrifies Patrick and his friend Jonty. Unable to resist, they hurtle down the track, barely in control. As Patrick flies out over the cliff, he sees Jonty, who seems to have fallen to his death. Patrick tries to cope with his guilt, and finds he must also deal with concurrent death of his brother in a car accident. With ground breaking surgery, Jonty's life is saved, but he has changed dramatically. He can drive, but fast and dangerously. Is he trying to kill himself, and is Patrick a victim of his friend's state of mind or his brother's? Is Jonty really Jonty?
