Main Idea Photo Cards are a convenient way to provide therapy for individuals needing extra practice with finding the main idea in reading passages. These cards were constructed by an SLP to help students deduct the main idea without having to read lengthy stories. With shorter passages, more time may be spent on teaching strategies, using scaffolding techniques, and more focused practice.
This set presents a collection of 50 double-sided cards. Each card has a photograph on one side and a short 2nd-3rd grade reading level text on the reverse. The student will read the passage, answer a main idea question from three multiple choices, and then develop a title for the story.
The visual cues in the photos are appropriate for students at every level. instructors may make the task more difficult by asking the main idea questions as open-ended questions, without providing any multiple choice answers.
