REWARDS Intermediate Classroom Set: for 10 Students

REWARDS (Intermediate Level) is a specialised reading program for students in grades 4, 5 and 6 who read at or above a 2.5 grade level and have difficulty reading long words. REWARDS is built specifically for readers who struggle with multisyllabic words. Designed for a wide range of struggling learners and instructional settings, the REWARDS approach has been proven effective in increasing fluency, comprehension, and academic vocabulary. Students learn highly generalisable and transferrable word attack strategies that extend from the ELA classroom into the content areas. In REWARDS Intermediate, students:

• Learn flexible strategies for decoding grade-level multi-syllabic words
• Increase oral and silent reading fluency
• Expand their knowledge of general academic and domain-specific vocabulary
• Improve comprehension as decoding and fluency increase
• Read accurately, quickly and with confidence

Designed as a 6-week course of instruction centred on daily lessons of 50-60 minutes, REWARDS’ leverages the tenets of good, explicit instruction, engages students, and features a gradual release of responsibility to the student as their proficiencies grow. REWARDS is powerful, short-term intervention that produces long-term results.

REWARDS Intermediate contains 25 teacher-directed lessons that will benefit students who have mastered the basic reading skills associated with first and second grade but who are not accurate or fluent oral readers in grade-level materials. The REWARDS Intermediate Classroom Set includes:
