Working Out with Listening is a resource full of 50 quick, fun, pick-and-choose Workouts that provide practice in the area of listening. This book is perfect for educators and parents who want to provide children with extra listening practice in the areas of recalling information, following directions and listening for details and main ideas.
The workouts review or reinforce listening skills that are expected to emerge naturally. They can be used as warm-ups before presenting a more complete lesson, as cool-downs at the end of a lesson, or as quick exercises when a few extra minutes remain between activities at school or at home. They can also be used informally to probe listening strengths and weaknesses.
Because adults read the items in each Workout and help children judge correct and incorrect responses, children do not need to be readers to complete the Workouts. The skills targeted are appropriate for children between 5 and 10 years of age, but they may also be appropriate for older children who have difficulty with listening tasks.
